Fragrance

Avoca has been a major supplier of raw materials to the fragrance industry for nearly 40 years. We are the world's largest supplier of sclareolide, a key raw material for the fragrance industry.

Avoca is located on 2,400 acres with approximately 1,200 acres under cultivation. Clary sage is grown on 400 to 600 acres at Avoca. Local contract farmers also cultivate additional clary sage. The clary sage is harvested annually from June through July.

Using a Rotocel extractor, Avoca has a proprietary process to extract sclareol from the clary sage plant. The material is then converted to sclareolide either chemically or biologically. Essential oils from clary sage can also be produced.
