Clary Sage Oil-American

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The oil is obtained by steam distillation of flowering tops and leaves of the plant Salvia sclarea L.


PROPERTIES:
Clary Sage Oil is a pale yellow to yellow mobile liquid.

Aroma is characteristically herbaceous with a wine-like aroma.

Clary Sage has a refractive index of 1.458 - 1.473 and a specific gravity ranging
between 0.886 and 0.929.

Optical rotation is -6° to -20°.

One volume of Clary Sage Oil in two volumes of 90% ethyl alcohol forms a clear to slightly opalescent solution. It is also soluble in most fixed oils, soluble in mineral oil up to 3 volumes but becomes opalescent on further dilution. It is insoluble in glycerin and propylene glycol.

Linalool content is between 16 and 30% and linalyl acetate varies between 40 and 68%.

Flash point is above 230° F by closed cup method.

PACKAGING:
Packed in glass or food-grade lined pails or drums labeled according to purchaser’s specifications.

HANDLING & STORAGE:
Store in tightly closed, preferably full, containers in a cool place protected from light.
